Well, the first concrete pour and the first inspection went off w/o a hitch. The first set of holes around the house have been fille, and ready for the next! I also got started on demo of the downstairs bathroom, which will be my project. I will leave all fixtures the same, just replace drywall, tile and floors. Anyone have any ideas how to get the glue junk from vinyl floors up, it is appreciated, as it is peeling off fine, but leaving the glue and some paper looking stuff down! The tile is coming off like butter, thanks to the $5 air hammer from Harbor Freight! What would have taken me about 3 hrs with a hammer, took me about 1/2 hour! Walls had been patched with green board, but there is still some of the old metal lath and plaster in the wall. I will most likely just leave that as is, as it is high enough on the walls. The rest will get vapor barrier, concrete board and hardi board before being retiled.
As for tiling, I will use gloss white 6″ x 3″ subway tile, but in straight pattern, as I believe it looks much more modern than the traditional brick pattern. I am thinking no different color trim, just all white and the walls or accessories to give it an accent color. Also trying to figure out what to do for tile. I am thinking maybe a honed slate in gray. All white would make it look too much like a hospital, and black would be weird. I may be able to salvage the original cabinet, and just put a new countertop on it. New cabinet would get covered with fresh white laminate (formica) and new brushed aluminum handles (which I get as a BARGAIN on Ebay!). I was thinking black formica counter, or maybe absolute black granite (they have it for about $4 sq foot at Floor and Decor here in Orlando, it would be 12 x 12 tile, but with a 1/16 grout I think it would look really good. Also a glass basin sink and chrome faucet.
